The Elements 101

Air

Today we’re going to talk about the Element of Air and its correspondences in Magick. In the circle, air represents the eastern direction.‌ ‌Some traditions begin casting ritual circles ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌east. Air is symbolized on the altar by feathers, incense, and the spoken word. Astrological associations are the signs of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.

In my practices, I work with the element of air when I am trying to channel new ideas and need assistance with creative projects. If I feel like I’m stuck in a rut, I will use my mini besom (broom) to whisk away stagnant energy away from a workspace. The sound waves created by a ceremonial rattle will travel over the air to remove patterns which no longer serve us. If I am meditating on the element of air, I envision the four directions of the winds bringing me advice from friends and family.
